Karen Fincher

With 17 years of experience teaching elementary music and choir in public schools, Karen Fincher brings a classroom teacher's depth of knowledge and a performer's ear to every voice lesson.

As the founder of Fincher Music Academy, Karen works one-on-one with singers to develop healthy, confident voices while building the musicianship skills that help students become independent musicians. Lessons are personalized to each student and include not only vocal technique, but also music reading, ear training, and music theory. Her patient, student-centered approach focuses on lasting growth and genuine musicianship—not just preparing for the next recital.

Karen's students have earned UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Sweepstakes awards, performed in TMEA Region 26 choirs, and successfully auditioned for competitive ensembles and productions. She has served as TMEA Middle School Vocal Coordinator for Region 26 and has directed numerous school musicals.

An accomplished choral singer herself, Karen has performed with Conspirare Symphonic Choir under Craig Hella Johnson, the University of Texas Choral Arts Society, and Chorus Austin, collaborating with organizations including the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Austin. She currently performs with the Brazos Valley Chorale, where she also serves as Alto Section Leader and Board Secretary, and serves as Executive Director of the Bluebonnet Children's Choir.

Karen holds a Master of Music Education from Texas State University, with a concentration in Kodály pedagogy and all three levels of Kodály Certification, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

A note on how lessons work here

Every lesson is one-on-one with Karen — there's no rotating roster of teachers, and no handing a student off to someone else once they improve. Group classes are kept small so every student still gets individual attention within the session.
